Emotionally Healthy Spirituality
Do you desire a deeper, more intimate, and holistic relationship with God? Do you struggle to act on what you believe in a way that aligns with what you think and feel? Are you frustrated that you might look good on the outside, but inside you feel like a fake or failure? You are not alone.
Author and Pastor Peter Scazzero found himself in a mess of self-doubt and uncontrolled emotions. He and his wife Jerri were drifting apart, his church split when his associate pastor took hundreds of people to start a new church, and Jerri decided to leave the church Peter founded. All this led Peter and Jerri into deep introspection and challenging growth. Peter came to realize his own immaturity was the problem, that despite his theological training and pastoral experience, “It’s not possible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature.”
Some symptoms of emotional and spiritual immaturity are:
- You struggle to slow down and be with Jesus
- Your “doing” and “being” feel out of balance
- You pretend to be something on the outside that feels fake on the inside
- You don’t really have a handle on your emotions (if you’re not sure, this is you!)
- You do everything in your power to avoid sadness, grief, anger, and other difficult emotions
- You know deep-down that some self-awareness is lacking
- You are always overbooked and in a hurry
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality is an invitation to a transformative spirituality with God; to bring yourself – all of your emotional and spiritual self – into a process of healing, growth, and maturity. In this course, you will journey with others walking similar roads, seeking to grow into a deeper, more joyful relationship with Jesus. You’ll explore Jesus-centered ways to understand your emotions and how they influence your relationship to God and one another. And in the process you’ll gain experience with practical tools to move forward toward health and maturity.
Some outcomes you can expect are:
- Knowing and becoming your authentic self in Christ
- Discovering how your family of origin affects you today
- Finding your way through “walls” to grow into maturity
- Enlarging your soul through embracing grief and loss
- Integrating silence and Sabbath to slow down for Jesus
- Learning how to grow into an emotionally healthy adult
- Designing a lifelong plan to live in God’s love
Who this course is for:
- Anyone seeking a deeper, more intimate, and holistic relationship with God
- Local teams wanting a shared discipleship experience
- Leaders or teams wanting to experience the Emotionally Healthy Discipleship method so they can offer it in their local projects/churches
Emotionally Healthy Spirituality is part one of the Emotionally Healthy Discipleship program. Part two is Emotionally Healthy Relationships which is also offered. It is highly recommended that they be taken in order.
I had the joy and privilege of going thru the first EHS and EHR courses which Daphne and Marty Uhler facilitated almost 4 years ago. It was such a transformative experience that my team was inspired to begin offering these same courses to our network of Christ-followers here in the Benelux. We have since had the privilege of helping to facilitate 4 more of these EHS/EHR courses. And each time we have done so we have discovered deeper layers of self-awareness, healing and perspective resulting in a more mature faith firmly rooted in the goodness and faithfulness of God. Whatever season of life you find yourself in, I wholeheartedly recommend these two 8-week discipleship courses.
