Change is all around us. More than that, it’s one of the few things in life we can’t avoid – change is inevitable. But how do we process change? How do we cope with change we weren’t looking for? How do we adjust to change that won’t just reverse itself? What happens when the change isn’t turning out like it was supposed to? These are big questions and at some point in most everyone’s life they are questions we have to wrestle with.
The Transitions 101 workshop is designed to help provide language for navigating the internal change. We call this process “transition.” It’s the inner process one goes through to adapt to external changes. In cross-cultural missionary work, there is a lot of change, and it can often take years for the transition within oneself to adapt to it all. The process is often even longer for those returning “home.”
Whatever the length of time, it’s important to know the time has meaning and remind ourselves God is in control. This workshop will give you a framework for understanding what God is doing in the midst of the transition, and signposts of where to look for Him at work. With language in place, it’s helpful to know there is a compass and we can tell which way is north, especially when it may feel like we are lost.
Some examples of a major life transitions are:
- Moving
- Becoming empty nesters
- Bereavement
- Getting a new job
Transitions 101 is an invitation to walk the road of internal change with God.
Some outcomes you can expect are:
- An understanding of the larger and normal process of transition
- A basic map of how the process generally goes
- Encouragement that you are not actually lost
- Exercises to help you cope and process what’s changing on the inside
